Connecting you with your life.
Dr Niamh Rice
MA (Hons), MRes, PhD, DClinPsych
I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and have spent my career in Adult Mental Health services in the NHS, supporting people individually and in groups during times of struggle. Coming always from a place of compassion and without judgement, my clinical practice aims to foster increased psychological flexibility to support becoming more emotionally open, cognitively flexible, aware and focused in the present moment and actively engaged in a meaningful life. Between life’s busyness and navigating struggles it’s all too easy to become disconnected from ourselves and what matters to us, spending our days trying to cope rather than living. With compassion we can create a space, a gap within the struggle, to heal and move towards reconnecting you to your life.
Therapy Gap is here to help you feel better, identify what’s important to you and begin creating a rich and meaningful life.
I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, a PhD in Psychology, a Masters degree in Psychological Research and an Undergraduate Masters Psychology degree. Throughout my career I have also completed additional training for the various clinical models I use to support my clients and their mental health. I draw upon a diverse range of clinical models which have been proved effective in supporting a broad spectrum of mental health challenges. The range of evidence based clinical models I use include: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), Trauma Focused therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and more relational and Attachment based approaches. When working with trauma I also find it important to explore the mind body connection, using somatic interventions to help cultivate resilience and expand your window of tolerance, the place where we feel able to cope.
These approaches are helpful in supporting people with the wide range of mental health challenges that can show up including; depression and low mood, anxiety, stress, shame and guilt, anger, emotional regulation issues (feeling as if we’re on an emotional rollercoaster every day), relationship difficulties, post traumatic stress responses, complex and intergenerational trauma, phobias, loneliness, low self esteem, struggling to cope with life transitions, insomnia, obsessive intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviours, feeling disconnected or dissatisfied with your life. If you are experiencing any of these challenges or recognise obstacles which are getting in the way of who you want to be and the life you want to live, please get in touch.
